Re: Who's coming to the Midwest RepRap Fest '14?

I have a little bit of this, but I assumed it was a tower rotation issue. Something I have not dialed in yet.

PLA will burn out. if that is what you want to do, you could skip the whole Rotomolding. Unless you need multiple copies. But then there are injectors for wax.

Re: CGBobio's V2 build

Not sure if this was taken care of in v2, but in V1, I think there is an issue with running the endstop wires down the same extrusion as the stepper motor wires. Not sure if this is what is done here... but might want to take heed. the endstop wires will take interference from the stepper motors. Th...

so, what exactly is the problem with this kind of material and a bowden extruder? is it just not ridged enough and binds in the tube?

Re: PEI print bed surface experiments

I know you guys mostly use PLA and some of you use ABS, but we need a solution that works for everything. What will happen when we try printing a plastic with a higher melting point than PEI? Nylon, polycarbonate, PPA, FEP, PAI, PEI, and all of the other ones I will [hopefully] be extruding this ye...

Thought: Even if this stuff doesn't have fantastic adherence. the part could be designed so that the hard material has flanged "teeth" so that it locks onto the soft.

A Duh moment!

Re: multiple filaments, multiple extruders, one head???

I think that is how they are doing Color Blending. If you don't want to blend, I think you would have to figure out a way to purge the residual color between color switches. Either that, or have the extruder plan ahead real well. even then, there will be a little bit of color mixing that if your par...

Any idea how this would adhere to other materials? PLA or ABS... I have a project in mind that could use that... Once I get bold enough to setup dual extruders. Instead of a servo, why not mount both heads on a slight tilt like this : Then depending on the head being used, the code adjusts the arm mathemagics to tilt the effector plate (I think that's it's name) by 5 degrees to position nozzle 1 correctly or -5 degrees to position nozzle 2. Not sure what s...

Re: Fans - Why have them on the heads?

Wouldn't adding a "Bowden" air line add it's own stresses to the system? Possibly even asymmetrically so? wouldn't/couldn't that be worse than adding mass to the effector? granted, something like asymmetric forces already exist on a bowden configuration, tradeoffs are tradeoffs... Just won...

This isn't intended to inflame or be hostile... I am confused; how is open source equated to Communism or Socialism? is it some how government owned? Do they dictate who, what or how people in the OS/OSHW operate? are these people payed by a government so that they can provide such a service? To me...

How many layers are the perimeter on each? was there infill on the torso?

If so, there may be enough residual heat on the torso, that when the next layer is extruded it can bond easier.

Still lobbing out guesses...

Re: Auto-Calibration - $100 Bounty and Bragging Rights

To do this right, wouldn't one need steppers connected to the end stop screws to adjust them automatically? the motors could get a real nice fine tune step/TPI pretty fine control. To even consider this on the cheap, you could bank switch the controller so that it can control multiple motors at diff...

My experience was time, patience and a hurting head. Of course, I have been at it for 18 years now, tools are a lot easier now... then again, there are a lot more of them to have to deal with. best practice, IMHO, is to actually minimize the use of tutorials. Dependance on them, gets people to learn...
