i use Solidworks at work, but I have my own subscription of Fusion 360. I can't see see spending $4,000.00 for solidworks, when I get way more out of Fusion 360 for only $310.00 a year.

If you're a veteran, you can get SolidWorks incredibly cheaply (if memory serves, under $100). However, spammy resellers probably don't want you to know that kind of thing. :)

The CAM that's built into Fusion 360 works pretty well.

I abhor the idea of renting software. :)

For a great stand-alone CAM program, you should take a peek at EstlCAM. I discovered it during my research into building an MPCNC machine (which is /finally/ built).

In my library of CAM, I have SheetCAM, MeshCAM, and V-Carve. The CAM portion of Fusion360 really kicks it up several notches with the tool libraries, and the adaptive machining. Watching it rough out a pocket in aluminum, using a 1/4" endmill, with a depth of cut set at 1/4" is amazing. I did have my hand over the E-Stop button the first couple of times.

Who need resellers. Have never bought anything from third hands if it's possible to by directly from the developer.

There's also an offer through the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) to get SolidWorks for something like $40/year.
