Problems printing first layer

Post by m4ttsmith »

Good evening everyone,

Has anyone ever had this movement when printing the first layer? It only seems to happen when the peice is over a certain radius (doesn't happen on 50mm radius but does on 100mm radius disk for example.)

I was just printing thin disks of varying diameter trying to get the levelling right over a large radius with the screws. Weird thing is that I actually managed to get one print off successfully so it doesn't do this all the time.

Anyway thanks in advance.

No. Honestly I've never seen something quite like that before, at least, that would be intermittent.

I have had issues where a too short bowden tube would cause something sorta like that, but it wouldn't be intermittent and let you get one finished, and if it was an H radius problem, then you wouldn't have good quality 50MM disks either. Is this happening running off the SD card, or over USB?

Mind telling us your slicing settings and the G code that this happens with?

Well... If it doesn't happen all the time then I'd think that it's possible that the belts are dragging on the frame or something... Perhaps turn down your movement and acceleration speeds.

If it happens every time... Then I'd say your arm length or xyz steps per mm is way off...

My initial thought is that at the start of running the gcode, assuming that he printer is properly calibrated, when the carriages were homed, one of the endstop micro switches failed.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I ran this a couple of times and I think it was the Z tower belt was slipping during the downwards movement! causing the Z carriage to be in the wrong position at the start of the print. So I re-tensioned all the belts to be sure and slowed down that initial acceleration and am currently printing a disk.

I still find it funny on these deltas how a small problem can cause such strange movements!

Thanks again for your help

Yup, That's why deltas are cool. Only the smart people can figure them out. Cartesians are for dummies.
