tutorials

Post by joecnc2006 » Mon Mar 17, 2014 8:12 pm

I have been looking for some nice tutorials but find nothing but whats on repetiers site,

I am having problems and would like to see what people use in the slicer settings etc, a full walk trough would be nice but can not find anything, my prints suck right now.. :)

the only thing I can get the first layer to stick to is painters tape with glue ontop of that, hairspray just drys up on the bed.

A good tutorial is here: http://richrap.blogspot.com/2012/01/sli ... s-and.html

Hairspray is supposed to dry on the bed but it still works. If yours is not working you are not using the right bed temps of 60c for PLA and 90c for ABS.
The hairspray has to be the extra super strong hold. Do a search for hairspray in the Rostock Max sub forum and you'll find brands people use.

Here is what the Extruder fan shroud looks like, Ext. 240c and bed 90c, the it starts to do overhangs it curls up and it could not do the bridge correctly even though it is a round hole and built up it it not a true bridge. And it is not a very smooth print. I get the same effect with 220c and 230c.

I wonder if someone shared their repetier slicer config file if I could open it and see what the settings are.

I posted settings on your build log, but here is what I would use as a general starting point. Make sure you edit the temp if you want something different, if different than .5mm nozzle size, change that and the extrusion widths. Also change your filament diameter to whatever you've found the average to be.

printing in ABS. Also what dia should the extrusion be if it is a 0.5mm nozzle just want to make sure mine is not the 0.7 by mistake.

You need to squirt a string of filament into the air and measure it with calipers. What you measure will be the nozzle size + 5%, give or take.

Looks like you're extruding too much, so it sounds like you're on the right track to solving it.

If I remember right when I did that and measured it I got 0.8mm So this would tell me I got the batch that had 0.7mm nozzle instead of the 0.5, I will change it to 0.7mm in slic3r and see what happens this evening.
Will this automatically adjust everything appropriately?
I wonder what the program does to compensate.

You could also leave the extrusion widths at a default of 0 just to see if it starts to clear things up a bit and then make refinements from there. Keep us posted.

I think it's in the Printer Settings tab under advanced.

Slowed the machine down to 15mm and the print came out better. not the best but improvement none the less. so the machine must be loose in the arms, time for mods... ?

Are you using the ORIONABS settings for that print?

I looked at the Orion pdf and the settings are pretty much the same. Are the specific that should be used? is the a file?

There's a file you download to import into Slic3r. The task is covered in the manual. Those are the settings used that the "factory" prints the peek fans & layer fans on.

Ok here is a print straight from the OrionABS file. When it is printing and starts to do overhangs outward the layer curls up on the end and this is what is messing up the piece when the next layer hits it and it keeps getting worse with each layer in those areas.

I got to thinking about trying a different filament so I changed it out and reprinted the same file from SD card. it still not doing that great on the top bridge areas. I still see the curling up on the overhangs.
But overall is better with the red Filiment.

Others have mentioned that it appears to be over-extruding...

Did you figure out if you're using a .7mm nozzle or a .5?
What are the extrusion widths in Repetier set to?
What temps was that last run printed at?
I loved my Rostock so much I now sell them in Oz :)

Yea I think that is correct that it is extruding to much, I did try the 0.7 in the nozzle setting before and did not notice a difference If I remember I measured 0.8mm extruded plastic from the nozzle. the E0 is set to 92.65 in firmware for the ezstruder. Is the something I'm missing in the settings of slic3r which can help?

I Will also change the extruder to 0.7 and see if that helps with the OrionABS settings.

first layer 218 then 220 as per OrionABS file, But I may have set it to 230 I have to check I was having problem with first layer stick.
Default Extrusion width is 0.6

Joe, try an extrusion width of 0.75 it may help if your nozzle is actually .7mm
I have never used a nozzle that large but I would definitely try the 0.75 as the width then print some small items and see if it makes a difference.
