Coming soon from 713Maker.com

Postby travelphotog » Sun Mar 26, 2017 4:01 pm

Just a sneak peak from MRRF of our next project for V2 and V3 printers.. After great sucess with another full metal printer kit and requests from customers, we will shortly start work on a full metal kit for both the V2 and V3 printers. We also now offer an effector to replace the stock HE280 stock effector and work with the stock layer fans and of course offer it in all our great anodize colors after many request from customers

Ditto.
Will they be plain alum. or will there be color options?

These parts are too large to fit in our anodize system, but we are looking into outsourcing the anodize on them and only charging costs on that if we can find a good local shop for it. We should know more in a week or so on that front.

Sounds great, any estimates on cost? I assume this will just replace the melamine pieces since the injected nylon is already ridged.... ?

I will have an idea on costs in a few days I think. On the V3 kit these will only replace the 4 large melamine pieces as like you stated, the nylon parts are very stiff already. On the V2 kits it will be a 100% melamine replacement kit.

Are there any pricing and availability updates? Also is there any chance that a smaller tool can be used at the corners so as to reduced the over rounding of the corners? I understand that a perfect 90 corner would not be reasonable, but something less "hole punched" would be nice. Either way it looks great and I can't wait to swap the pieces.

If you need testing for a V3 kit, let me know.

The dogbones in the corners are so small that you really won't notice them much.

Sadly the radius of the endmill is of course far larger than the width of the CO2 laser used on the wooden parts. So there has to be some sort of "dogbone" in the corners to allow the parts to fit together. These currently use a 2.23mm dill which is done off center of the corner to further reduce the footprint of the hole. I can look at some small drills, but much smaller and the failure rate tends to start climbing for drilling holes that deep. But the dogbones could in theory be slightly reduced even further. Going to a smaller end mill is also not a good option as even with a 24K RPM spindle, the mill time on something like a 1/16th or so end mill would add at least an hour to more to each kit in milling time for the number of slots needed and the overall result would look almost the same with far more time needed to reach the same result.

So the first batch of stock came in the other day and we just got our newest CNC mill making some aluminum chips. So.. I should have more on pricing soon and this week the plan Is to try and mill a set out to take by the anodizer and see what sort of pricing the kits will need for an anodized finish. Plan is to simply direcrtly pass the anodize rice along on the kits not planning to make anything off that part since they are just down the way from us. We did a test run of our new finish that we feature on the V3 kits with our in house anodize and it is an amazing result! The finish has great depth to it and there is a great deal of "movement" to it as you walk by the parts. We are super excited and really looking forward to getting back the first run from the anodizer. Wish we could keep these in house for anodizing, but these parts are just too big for our current setup.

Hey guys! Sorry I have been away so much. I have been busy getting the newest CNC mill up and running and doing more testing for the Rostock metal kits. I did look into reducing the dogbone size in the slot corners and I have reduced it down to about as small as it can go with a new process. I will have pictures to post in a few days of the old size and the newer far smaller size. This will greatly reduce the visual impact of the dogbones, but still allows the slots to fit with ease. I should be milling the first full V3 kit later this week and will swing it by the anodizer ASAP to get a price for anodized kits. I am starting work on the V2 kits in CAd and should have one ready for milling shortly. I do expect the V2 kits to take a few extra days in both CAd and milling as there is far more parts to layout, program and mill. I also need to look into laying out the parts to make the best use of the materials and work within the mill table size. But I just wanted to post a short update and let everyone know we are still moving forward to these and making improvements to our process along the way.

So this will replace all the melamine parts from a V2 machine...very interested in cost.

Yes the plan is to replace 100% of the melamine on both printers. I have not had a chance to finish putting the V2 kit into CAD yet so I do not have a good idea of pricing yet. I should have that by the end of the week. Now that both larger mills are running, I have more free time in CAd as the larger mill jobs often have 4-7 hour run times which frees me to do other things. Have to love CNC mills!
