KISS questions

Postby Nylocke » Fri Feb 13, 2015 10:11 pm

Been using KISS for every single one of my prints since the first one. I love it. Buuuut I do have a few nit picks. Cura has much better dual extrusion support out of the box. I figured out how to force the printer to wait for each hotend to wait to get to temp before switching colors (change the M104 to M109), so thats not a problem.

I have been having issues with seams in the prints being pretty noticeable. Using Michael's base settings as the starting point for the most part. Prime, suck, and wipe all at 2mm. Might try bumping wipe up?

The other problem I have is the last extruder selected has a little retract at the end of the print. Something like 5mm or more I'd guess. This causes issues when the last selected extruder was the second one, and so when I go to start the print, the prime tower isn't large enough to prime the second extruder, and so the start of the path doesn't have any plastic flow for a short while. Is there a way to increase the size of the prime tower, or to disable the last retract at the end of the print?

In addition to that issue, theres another one I have related to dual extrusion. I can't figure out how to get the second extruder to get set to the wait temp at the beginning of the print. I could add some G-Code, which I might try to fudge up real quick, but the KISS "syntax" is a little unfamiliar with me.

Code: Select all

T<EXT+0>
M104 S<TEMP>
M190 S<BEDTEMP>
M109 S<TEMP>

Not sure why it says EXT+0? Does that mean Extruder 1 (as in the index 0 to n extruders (n being max extruders - 1 (considering it starts from 0 since its an index?))) or does that mean the current extruder that is going to be used for the next print lines? I question this because in the select extruder code it has the same EXT+0.

These are my only complaints about it so far. Everything else has been good (though a bit weird at times coming from a Cura background)

Try retracting(sucking?) more, I need about 6mm to relieve pressure on the nozzle. Having too little looks like a seam but is actually a bump

Nylock, you don't say what version of KISS you are using - the new 1.5 betas or something earlier?

I'll have to give this a little thought but this would be an excellent post over at the KISSlicer forum. Jonathan is active in that forum. http://www.kisslicertalk.com

There is also a new manual being developed for the 1.5 version: http://3ntr.eu/wp-content/uploads/2015/ ... 080215.pdf The section on printer gcode lists all of these tokens that are simply substitution parameters. Extruders are base 0. Of course on the 1.5 beta Printer->Extruder Hardware tab they are numbered Extruder 1 ...

I don't have the retract issue you mentioned so I suspect that must be configured somewhere - perhaps the Extruder G-code tab?

I'm using the (what seems to be latest) beta from September of last year, at least the latest I could get from the site. Ive checked all my G-Code, most of it is either stock or yours. I only added a G28 before it started printing, and I changed the switch extruder code from M104 to M109 so it would force it to wait for the extruders to warm up.

The seams, I'll post pics if I can get enough light. its not blobbing, its actually too little material at the seams. I have Zhop set to 1mm like I always do, thats the only difference between my settings and the ones you just posted. I prefer it this way so it doesn't snag on things during travel moves.

Ah, that is OLD OLD OLD! Go to the forum and find the RELEASES section on the home page. There is a Dropbox link to the new beta builds (which are almost ready for release). The latest Windows version is a bit newer and has my independent suck/prime speed settings. The multi extruder support is getting better and is certainly better in these betas.

I figured that out by looking at the site. It said Beta release 1, and I figured since jonathan has been working on this for a while, that probably isn't right. I see now, I'll see what happens with all this.
