Re: Hello from Wisconsin

What options are you looking for that 123D does not have? To begin with I thought it prettry simple too. However I have since learned how to do complex things with it. It is now what I use for all of my things which are usually cases for electronic things most of which require accurate placement of ...

Re: Long moves with no printing but no retraction either

Hey Dale, A little bit of ooze just before the prints starts is pretty normal. Since I always print with a brim, it never affects the actual print. Mattercontrol has a bridging fan speed setting under Filament -> Cooling. Just select the Advanced settings to see it. Just to be clear I'm not talking...

Long moves with no printing but no retraction either

I am using mattercontrol slicer and sometimes it will do a long non-printing move but it does not command a retraction. The extruder leaks a little during the move and can leave a little trail or a small glob at the landing spot. When it does use retraction it works just fine. I have turned retracti...

Re: A Strategy for Successful (and Great) Prints

I was having a hard time following the advice on nailing the first layer thickness. I specified a layer of .3 but it usually measured close to .4 mm. I had the z height just touching the paper and leveled very well. I could only get close to .3mm if I made the tip touch the paper with a very strong ...

Re: Slic3r Prints Never Start...

Thank you. The tip about the syntax for Slicr was the key. I never found a way to edit the Gcode directly in MatterControl. Everytime I tried is reverted back to the original setting even after I saved it. Instead I imported a new slicer Material setting. Using that one fixed it except I now need to...

Re: gaps in print

Maybe it is not extruding enough because the extruder steps per mm are slightly too low. I recently printed a 20 mm diameter disk .3 mm high as a test since that would produce only one layer. I was surprised to discover that each extruder path had a small gap on either side. The fix was to increase ...

Re: gaps in print

I think it can do a .3 mm layer because that is governed by the Z height of the extruder over the previous layer. I know my first layer is .3 mm as measured by caliper and my nozzle diameter is .5 mm.

Re: Who wants to build me a new hotend and get paid for it?

I was harsh but I also gave advice on what to look for. I'm only being harsh to warn you that there will probably be things you must master besides only that. Resistors that I had in my kit did not have tin foil on the side. So what are you describing. If instead you mean the hot end itself then som...

Re: gaps in print

I'm a newbie at this only been printing ABS and for only 2 weeks. However ABS does not smell at least for me. I have heard the PLA does smell. So with that info and the temp info you posted I think it is ABS you are printing. However because I'm a newbie I have no idea about those gaps. Sorry. Dale ...

Re: Who wants to build me a new hotend and get paid for it?

Sorry I know you did not ask for advice but you are going to get it anyway because this is a simple thing. If you spent a week and could not fix it then it means your trouble shooting skills are not what it takes to use this printer. So either you learn how to fix it or you will have other problems ...

searching the forum for a pharse

Is there a way to search for "nozzle diameter" and not have it find "nozzle" and "diameter" somewhere in a post. Sorry that I can not find how to do that.

Standard hotend for Rostock Max V2 wiggles

My stanard hotend for my Rostock max wiggles about 2 mm at the tip if I press on it with my finger. It is slightly loose where the PEEK attaches to the metal top part. Is that normal or have I somehow damaged it? My prints seem to come out ok but I don't have the experience yet to know for sure. I d...

Re: Slic3r Prints Never Start...

I have the same problem and I exported the Gcode to see it. G21 ; set units to millimeters M104 S{temperature} M190 S{bed_temperature} M109 S{temperature} G28 As you can see the "{temperature}" field should have a number in it but it does not. I don't know how to correct it or why it is th...

Re: Another new Member from Minnesota

Ok here is a picture of it's current state. I'm a recently retired EE and Software Engineer who likes to tinker and make things. So I have a wood shop and metal lathe and bench top mill. I have the Max moving to Gcode that was output by matter control and put on an SD card, that I edited to remove t...

Another new Member from Minnesota

Hi, I am building the Rostock Max and have it up and running but with no hot end yet because I'm waiting for the Kapton tape. Tape was coming UPS from California but went through Kentucky and got delayed by their snow storm. So much for my 2 day delivery upgrade to shipping. Anyway for you other Min...
