Re: Adventures in Noise Slaying

I can say that I ran my first Duet Wifi on my V1 Rostock Max with a 12V supply and it was as quiet as a mouse walking on felt. I have 6 Duet Wifis now on different config machines - mostly 24V - and they are all dead quiet. Folks at the MRRF that saw (and tried to hear) my Rostock Max V3 (tricked ou...

Re: Duet Ethernet is coming

Just to be clear, the Duet Wifi introduced last year is the state of the art Duet with many great features and superb stepper drivers. But it ONLY has a Wifi capability (and USB). This new product is that Duet Wifi with the Wifi module replaced with the electronics and port for wired ethernet. Other...

Re: Duet Ethernet is coming

Yup, see: https://www.duet3d.com/forum/thread.php?id=1161

They use the same main board and simply mount an ethernet port and associated hardware where the Wifi module used to go.

I didn't get a beta of this board but my understanding is that only the ethernet changed. Now you can choose Wifi or Ethernet.

Re: Updating to MatterControl 1.7 ruins prints

Can the OP verify that they are able to take it a step further: did you then retry the previous MC to ensure that the part looks identical to the right side? did you save your g-code file from the previous version of MC and then print THAT EXACT g-code file in 1.7? The reason I ask is because the pa...

Re: MRRF 2017 Has a date!! March 25-26, 2017

Presentation is complete, car is packed with 4 printers, a tool box, a big box of filament and parts and what-nots, my Surface 4 (yes Gene, I joined the dark side last week. It rocks though). And I'm waiting for my buddy from Boston to get off work and stop by tonight. I'm thinking maybe a better ap...

Got lucky, right on my blog post two photos down it shows that orange wire connected to the negative terminal! I've added a note to correct the post. Thanks guys.

Re: RostockMAX V3 to Duet WiFi conversion instructions

Ok, I checked all my photos archive and I have that orange wore on + in every photo. I'm sure the fans worked but the schematics say it shouldn't so maybe I had an elderly moment. Most of the photos were taken on the same day.

I've since completely redone the wiring so I can't compare.

Re: Duet Wifi

Have realistic expectations though, many of the STLs on thingiverse are absolute crap - low polygon counts. You will never get a great print out of an inferior STL file. If you are designing your own models, learn how to tesselate properly-I have a post on my blog about how to get the best results.

Re: Poor 1st Layer Adhesion Between X & Z

This sounds like the "bed tilt" issue that many of us experienced earlier this year/late last year. Using the web based calibration based on David Crocker's implementation either manually (on the SeeMeCNC site) or via the Octoprint plug in significantly improved things. Which version of ca...

Re: Yet another Duet-to-HE280 accelerometer probe adapter

Mike, this is the sort of information I was looking for, thanks! As you know, so many people post comments like "it works" and they are correct - it works for their use case but maybe not others. The range of bed surfaces you list tells me the sensor is not sensitive to the "dampening...

Re: Yet another Duet-to-HE280 accelerometer probe adapter

@leadinglights, what about their ability to handle multiple surfaces and not just plain borosilicate without any changes to probe sensitivity, etc? My experience spans the gamut of bed surfaces AND multiple printers (i.e. different effectors, motion control mechanics, .9 vs 1.8 steppers, bed sizes a...

Re: Yet another Duet-to-HE280 accelerometer probe adapter

Hey Mike, I don't know if you looked at FSRs with the JohnSL interface board. If not, you should. I have been running delta printers using this setup with absolutely perfect results for a couple of years, printing nearly everyday. Other than the initial install, which really was not a problem, I rea...

Re: Yet another Duet-to-HE280 accelerometer probe adapter

Have you looked at FSRs? They are an excellent solution that work under a wide variety of conditions, reliably. There is no reason why an effector/carriage couldn't be designed with an FSR rather than a piezoelectric sensor. But, on to your question, yes F1800 and that is at the low end. The stock S...

Re: Yet another Duet-to-HE280 accelerometer probe adapter

Yes, I've been following closely. Haven't made one yet. I spent sooooo much time trying to get the accelerometer probe to work that I put off dozens of projects. I'll wait a bit and see how this works longer term but I do like the idea and it does seem like it will have the reliability of FSRs with ...

Re: Which upgrades to buy

Bear in mind that we each have differing requirements for reliability and precision. I also have trash80's interface and we collaborated behind the scenes. I also worked directly with the company that manufactures the accelerometer itself. Sure, I can get it to work but any seemingly minor change ca...

Re: Which upgrades to buy

My recommendation, and take it for what it's worth: Ditch the AstroSyns, they are not needed with the Duet WiFi and actually introduce enough wobble to affect part quality (slightly). E3D V6 Universal version WITHOUT the Bowden option - it's not needed. 12 V version Also realize, I gave up on gettin...

Supporting Rules

I get asked this all the time so here's a little overview on how to go about designing purpose-built supports for your models. You can also use these techniques to add supports to STL models in exactly the same way, all it takes is a CAD program that can open STL files and can generate meshes and sa...

Ok, I've updated all the files on TV and two members have verified the "stock V3" versions work perfectly in the stock V3 base. As an apology for bone-headedness, I created two different small drawers too. So you can choose from a simple drawer or a drawer with nozzle holders for either of...

Re: New Slic3r Prusa Edition (rocks)

Are you designing these parts yourself in Fusion 360? If so, THAT's where to design in the supports. That's what I do. Here's an example - the Z shaped part is the support that keeps the inside flat bottom from failing. The part I'm holding is printed with the thin perimeter facing down, like an ups...
